Klokoč – Mineral Springs, Educational Trail and Village History

Klokoč combines remarkable mineral springs with an educational trail in the village center, a former school converted into a museum and visible traces of local history. If you would like to get to know a place not only through individual sights, but also through its landscape, traditions and paths, you will find several different ways to do so here.

Mineral springs between Polom and the Jašov Stream

There are currently seven better-known mineral springs in Klokoč: Polom 1, Polom 2, Palčúrova, Podrichtárova, Jašova, Kubova and a spring in the spruce grove on the Kocanský Stream. The Polom mineral spring is considered the best-known and most visited mineral spring in Klokoč. It is also part of the surroundings of the Park of the Outlaw Paľo Demikát, where a tourist rest area is located.

Another named spring is Jašov-Medokýš, also called Jašova medokýš. It emerges in the alluvial deposits of the Jašov Stream and is frequently visited by local residents. The outlet of the Medokýš is concreted and protected by a shingle roof. Thus, various specific springs and outlets stand alongside one another in Klokoč, without them being combined into a single facility.

Educational trail with two route options

The Park of the Outlaw Paľo Demikát is an educational trail in the village center of Klokoč. It follows in the footsteps of the robber Paľo Demikát from Klokoč and offers a choice between a route along a stream and another route along an abandoned quarry. Information boards accompany you throughout the park. The tourist rest area is located next to the Polom mineral spring. For orientation on site, both the history of the person described and two different landscape settings of the park are therefore documented.

Museum in the rooms of a two-class school

The Múzeum v starej škole is located in the original rooms of a two-class school. The preserved elements include school desks, the original blackboard and a wooden floor. The collection comprises ethnographic exhibits with historical relevance, as well as various objects used for different activities during the past century. This allows the museum visit to be understood through the space itself and the everyday objects on display.

You can register for a visit to the Múzeum v starej škole by phone or email, as there are no fixed opening hours. This arrangement is directly relevant to your planning: a visit does not follow a generally stated daily time window, but depends on prior registration.

Further traces of local history

The preserved municipal bell tower of Klokoč stands in the local cemetery, dates from around 1780 and contains a bell. The Church of the Immaculate Heart of the Virgin Mary of Fatima in Klokoč was originally a funeral home. Both places add historic buildings with different functions and origins to the picture of Klokoč.

Klokoč on the Hontianska cyklomagistrála

The village is also clearly identified in terms of its place on a cycling route: The Hontianska cyklomagistrála passes through Klokoč and runs between Záježová, Vígľašská Huta-Kalinka, Klokoč, Stožok and Detva. Klokoč can therefore be viewed not only through its springs, educational trail and local history, but also as a stop along this explicitly named connection.
