Chrámec: Educational Trail, Landscape and Reformed Church
Accommodation in Chrámec
Chrámec combines a distinctive landscape setting with a clearly described educational trail, a sandstone rock formation in the nearby area and the Reformed Church, the oldest monument in Chrámec. This creates a destination where nature and cultural themes complement each other within a compact area: the Pieskovcové chrbty Educational Trail begins on the edge of the village, while the Reformed Church is one of Chrámec’s historic features.
Between the Rimavská kotlina basin and the Cerová vrchovina highlands
Chrámec lies at the transition between the southern part of the Rimavská kotlina basin and the northeastern edge of the Cerová vrchovina highlands. At the same time, the village lies in the valley of the Mačací potok stream. This location describes the landscape setting more precisely than a general assignment to a region: on one side is the basin area, and on the other the edge of the Cerová vrchovina highlands. The cadastral territory of the municipality of Chrámec also includes the Cerová vrchovina Protected Landscape Area.
Pieskovcové chrbty Educational Trail
The Pieskovcové chrbty Educational Trail is a 4.6-kilometre circular route that begins on the edge of Chrámec. The starting point is therefore clearly connected with the village, while the circular route forms a complete trail. The educational trail passes through an area of European importance that is subject to the fourth and second levels of protection. These two levels of protection are part of the specific description of the area and should be retained when classifying the landscape.
There are five information boards along the route. The boards are in Slovak and Hungarian; English information is available via QR codes. This documents multilingual interpretation for your orientation on site, without requiring any additional information about opening hours, access or current management. The educational trail therefore primarily provides a clearly defined way to explore the landscape features around Chrámec and the content presented there.
Pohanská skala and the route to the Hungarian border
Pohanská skala is located in the nearby area. The rock consists of sandstone; more resistant calcareous layers form projecting, cornice-like shapes. This geological character distinguishes Pohanská skala from a mere description of a viewpoint and makes the rock understandable as an independent landscape feature.
A route from Chrámec also led to Pohanská skala on the border with Hungary. During a traditional crossing through the Cerová vrchovina highlands, Chrámec was the starting point.
The VN Chrámec reservoir is used for sport fishing.
Reformed Church as the oldest monument
The oldest monument in Chrámec is the Reformed Church. It was built using Gothic remains. The church therefore has not only a religious but also an architectural and historical dimension: older Gothic elements continue to be incorporated into its present structure. For a stay in Chrámec, it complements the educational trail and the landscape with a specific site connected to the history of the village.
