Hubovo: Church, Bell Tower and Fishing Waters
Accommodation in Hubovo
Hubovo lies where the eastern edge of the Rimavská kotlina meets the eastern part of the Cerová vrchovina, in the valley of a left-bank tributary of the Slaná. Forests and hills surround the village; the municipal area covers 1,082 hectares. This provides a clear landscape setting for planning a trip, complemented by a specific building history centred on the Reformed Church and the wooden bell tower. Culture, cycling and fishing offer different points of interest for comparing Hubovo with other destinations.
Reformed Church and Wooden Bell Tower
The classicist Reformed Church was built in 1776 and has been renovated. It has a single nave, a rectangular termination and no tower. A wall surrounds the church grounds. The masonry entrance porch has a triangular gable bearing the year 1935. The dates refer to different details: 1776 is the year the church was built, while 1935 appears on the porch gable.
The wooden bell tower also stands on the church grounds. This folk-style structure has a square floor plan and dates from the 1790s. It was built without a single nail. From bottom to top, its structure comprises a wooden tent roof, a wooden arcaded section and a slender shingle-clad spire. The square floor plan describes the shape of the building as seen from above; the roof and upper section define its structure as it rises. The Reformed Church and the wooden bell tower are listed as national cultural monuments under number 965.
Fishing at VN Hubovo

Landscape and Trip Planning
The area around Hubovo is considered suitable for cycling tourism. The distinction from fishing is useful when planning: cycling relates to the surrounding area in general, while fishing is associated with the named VN Hubovo reservoir.
Alongside forests and hills, the landscape includes remnants of orchards and vineyards, whose former heyday has passed. These add traces of past land use to the area’s natural setting. Hubovo is also home to a more recent castle set amid a hunting ground. These different aspects of the village—religious buildings, fishing waters and landscape—offer specific ways to consider Hubovo for your trip to Slovakia.
