Discover Lopašov: Cultural Heritage and Hiking Trails

Lopašov combines a centrally located church, the town’s traditional symbols and marked hiking trails to create a destination with a clearly recognizable character of its own. Church, Seal and Local History

The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Vendelín stands in the center of Lopašov. It is also important for finding your way around the town: Dzedzina is one of two parallel streets known locally by these names that surround the centrally located church. The church contains a silver and gilded chalice dating from 1692. This date points to the long-documented history of the town’s sacred center, without saying anything about whether it can be visited today.

A particularly distinctive symbol of the town’s history is the historic seal of Lopašov. It bears the inscription “PECZET * DEDINI * LOPASSOWA 1601” and depicts a plow with two wheels on the sides. The seal featuring the plow motif was created as early as 1601 and was used continuously until the 19th century. The first known municipal seal of Lopašov is also documented on a deed dated April 10, 1769.

Traditional Costume as Living Cultural Heritage

The traditional costume of Lopašov includes workwear, festive clothing and ceremonial attire. The festive clothing of men is documented in particular detail: younger men wear blue, while older men wear black, close-fitting wool trousers. These trousers are decorated with cord appliqués on the front of the thighs. Parts of the ceremonial attire have been preserved in family collections and, with longer or shorter interruptions, are still worn today on important family, religious and social occasions. These include weddings, religious celebrations, church feast days and anniversaries of associations. Lopašov’s cultural character therefore lies not only in historic objects but also in clothing that continues to be worn on certain occasions.

Marked Trails and Geographical Orientation

Lopašov also offers specific points of interest for a trip focused on hiking. The green-marked hiking trail 5115 leads from Mlýnky via Čupy at 574 meters and Dubový vrch at 470 meters to Lopašov. The trail reaches the town at the Lopašov cemetery. From Lopašov, an officially red-marked hiking trail also leads via Klenová to Brezová–Dvoly. The two descriptions clearly differ in their routes and trail-marking colors, helping you understand the town not only as a destination but also as part of a network of marked trails.

For access and the town’s location in the wider area, Road 51 runs along the western edge of Lopašov. It forms part of the Senica–Holíč–Hodonín connection. Historically, winegrowing was also one of the activities of Lopašov’s inhabitants; the municipality already owned vineyards at the beginning of the 18th century.
