Kátov – Water, Cycling Route and Local Culture

Kátov combines bodies of water, a clearly designated cycling connection and local culture, offering different reasons to visit. Kátov’s local water network includes the Kátovské mŕtve rameno. Floodplain forests line the landscape on the western edge of the village. Another natural waterway is Výtržiny / Jazero. Local Cycling Route 5202 connects Skalica with Kátov and links several cycling routes. In Kátov, Route 5202 ends at the intersection with red main route 024A. By linking several cycling routes, Route 5202 remains part of a larger network of paths. The starting point, destination and this intersection therefore form a clear spatial sequence for the journey.

Traditional costume and Neo-Gothic church

Local culture is also tangible through specific features. The traditional costume of Kátov is a variant of the costume worn by the population of the Chvojnická Valley. Today, young people in Kátov wear this traditional costume only on important holidays and at social occasions. Its present-day use is therefore focused on special occasions and is not described as everyday clothing.

Another cultural point of reference is Kostol sv. Imricha, a Neo-Gothic church dating from 1910. The interior furnishings date from the period when the church was built.
