Snina District – between Kremenec, Vihorlat and cultural sites
Snina District combines a distinctive border region with mountain landscapes, primeval forests and regional culture. At Kremenec, the borders of Slovakia, Poland and Ukraine meet. Border landscapes and primeval forests
Kremenec represents the special location of the area. Two cross-border routes were established in 2013: the Veľká Ravka–Kremenec–Nová Sedlica route and the Wetlina–Riaba skala–Runina route lead through this borderland hiking area. Another characteristic landscape is located in the cadastral area of Nová Sedlica. The Stužica NPR preserves extensive primeval forest stands with a structure resembling that of a primeval forest.
Bears, wolves and European bison live permanently in the Stužica NPR. Rare animal species can be found in the protected area around Sninský kameň.
Hiking trails to Sninský kameň
The hiking trail from Zemplínske Hámre to Sninský kameň starts at the car park by the quarry and follows a yellow-marked hiking trail to the Tri tably saddle. From there, a red-marked hiking trail leads to the summit plateaus of Sninský kameň. Both plateaus can be reached via iron ladders.
The Zemplínske Hámre Tourist Information Centre is located near the quarry at the start of the main trails to Sninský kameň and Vihorlat; visitors can use a free car park there.
Culture between mining history and sacred art
The Múzeum Zemplínske Hámre is located in the oldest building in the municipality. The stone building dates from the early 19th century and was originally used to house the management of the ironworks. Today, the museum presents two permanent exhibitions. One focuses on the history of mining and iron processing in the Vihorlat Mountains. The ethnographic exhibition presents folk architecture, agriculture, crafts and the traditional costumes of the residents of the Josefsthal settlement.
Snina also offers a historical point of interest: Sninský kaštieľ was completed by Jozef Rholl in 1800. Its cultural programme includes exhibitions, concerts and other events; there is also a permanent exhibition on the art and history of the region. In Topoľa, a bell tower from the second half of the 17th century stands beside the church. The iconostasis dates from the mid-18th century and includes several icons from the 17th century. The church in Uličské Krivé has a Baroque iconostasis from the 18th century, which includes several icons from the 16th century.

Ranč pod Sninským kameňom offers horse-riding activities for all age groups and levels of experience. These include rides along forest paths and through meadows, with views of the Vihorlat Mountains. For cyclists, the Sninské Rybníky–Zemplínske Hámre route runs along the Carpathian Cycle Route 016 through the Vihorlat Mountains. At the Čierťaže signpost, this route also connects to the yellow-marked cycle route 8903.
