Snina: Manor House, Forests and Paths Through History

Snina combines cultural history with paths through forest and waterside landscapes. Manor House and Exhibitions in Snina

A defining cultural destination is Snina’s Neoclassical manor house. It was built in 1781 on the site of an earlier wooden building. The manor house contains museum exhibitions and gallery displays, including the “Ozveny Sniny” exhibition. The restored building was ceremonially opened to the public on 5 July 2013 as part of the celebrations marking the 1,150th anniversary of the arrival of Cyril and Methodius. This means that a visit to Snina can be shaped not only by landscapes and activity, but also by architecture, exhibitions, and the history of the town.

Cycle Route Featuring Town History and Forest Railway Relics

The 10-kilometre urban cycling route “Za históriou Sniny” leads through Snina’s history at nine stations. Along the way, it provides information about the town’s historical, cultural, and natural monuments. The route is considered easy and is also suitable for active recreation with children. One of its stations is dedicated to the “Sninská úzkokoľajová lesná dráha (S.U.L.D.)”. This narrow-gauge railway once served to transport timber from the Vihorlat Mountains to a local sawmill in Snina; its tracks had a gauge of 760 mm. Sninské rybníky: Forest Paths, Mushrooms and Recreation

Another cycling option is the excursion “Snina – Sninské rybníky – Biele kamene”. It begins in Snina and leads to the popular Sninské rybníky recreation area. From there, the route follows forest paths towards Biele kamene. The area around Sninské rybníky is characterised by forests consisting predominantly of mixed woodland. From spring to late autumn, these provide favourable conditions for mushroom growth. Sninské rybníky also offer an environment for walks and picnics combined with mushroom picking. Picking mushrooms makes it possible to take fresh mushrooms home for culinary preparation.

Mlynisko Ponds and Hike to Sninský kameň

The greenery-surrounded ponds of Mlynisko are also among the nature-related destinations in Snina. They provide refuge for various species of waterfowl and other fauna. Mlynisko Pond is used for recreational fishing. For a moderately difficult hike, the 8.9-kilometre “Snina – Sninský kameň” route is available.
