Korytné
Accommodation in Korytné
Korytné lies at the foot of Branisko Mountain and combines traces of cultural history with a distinctive cycling route. The village is also located along an old transport route. As a result, several perspectives come together in Korytné: you can explore sacred architecture and local places of remembrance or include the 34.5-kilometre MTB route 2710 in your travel plans.
Church, Chapel and Manor House Ruins
The Roman Catholic Church of St. Matthew is a Neoclassical church dating from 1816. Inside, there is a late Baroque folk wood carving of the Crucified Christ from the late 18th century. The historic village setting also includes a chapel dating from 1817. It is therefore one year younger than the Church of St. Matthew.
Next to the church are the ruins of a manor house from the early 19th century. Today, only ruins remain at its site. The manor house remained fully functional until 1956 and was inhabited by Gizela Jencsa until then. The Jencsa family crypt is also located next to the church. Anyone interested in the history of a place will find various traces from different periods here: the church and chapel stand alongside the remains of the manor house and the family crypt.
Craftsmanship and Places of Remembrance
A stone smithy in Korytné dates from 1943. It was declared a National Cultural Monument in 1963. Its former function points to the importance of transport across Branisko: among other things, the smithy was used to maintain horse-drawn vehicles before their journey over the Branisko Pass. In this way, the craft tradition complements the village’s sacred and aristocratic heritage with a practical aspect of regional transport history.
Korytné is also home to a site of military-historical remembrance. A monument to the soldiers who fought at Branisko on 5 February 1848 was later moved to the cemetery in Korytné. The specific date thus remains associated with the event, while the monument’s present location is the cemetery.
Cycling through Korytné
Cycling route 2710, “Kolínovce – Dúbrava – Vyšný Slavkov”, passes through Korytné. It is 34.5 kilometres long, designated as an MTB route of medium difficulty, and runs along both asphalted and paved paths. If you would like to combine cycling with culture, you can include Korytné as one of the places along this route in your plans and combine the history of the village with a sport-oriented stage.
The Travel Interests Korytné Appeals To
Korytné is particularly interesting if, during a trip to Slovakia, you are looking not just for a single attraction but would like to explore different historical layers in one place. The church, chapel, wood carving, manor house ruins, family crypt, smithy and monument each offer a different focus. Its location at the foot of Branisko and the old transport route also give this place of cultural and historical interest a clear landscape and transport-history context.
