Maly Lipnik: EuroVelo 11, Guesthouse and History
Accommodation in Maly Lipnik
Maly Lipnik lies near the Polish border on the northern side of the Ľubovnianska vrchovina, at an altitude of about 450 metres. The village offers a practical point of reference for travellers who want to include cycling, hiking and village history in their trip to Slovakia. Hiking is possible within the cadastral area and in the immediate surroundings. EuroVelo 11 passes directly through the village and its cadastral area. A cycling bridge over the Poprad is part of the route; Poland can be reached via footbridges.
Outdoors: Cycling Route, Hiking and Roads
The two activities offer different ways to find your bearings: for cycling, EuroVelo 11 is a named route, and the bridge over the Poprad is a specific point of reference. Hiking is possible throughout the cadastral area and its immediate surroundings. When planning your trip, you can therefore decide whether you would prefer to follow a designated cycling route or explore the hiking area around the village.
Three Class III roads pass through Maly Lipnik. Road 3138 leads to Plavnica and onward to Legnava; Road 3141 leads to Matysová, and Road 3142 to Sulín. These connections provide specific destinations to help you find your bearings in the region. Together with the cycling route, they offer different starting points for planning a stay, without implying a specific circular route.
Guesthouse and Winter Activities
There is a tourist guesthouse by the football pitch. Its grounds include tennis courts, a volleyball court, a children's playground and a pavilion for sitting outdoors. There is also a simple ski lift for skiers and families with children. The guesthouse provides a specific accommodation option in the village, while the facilities on its grounds offer additional things to do during your stay. The availability of individual facilities may vary. If you are considering the guesthouse, check its availability in advance; for the ski lift, also check operating hours locally.
For a winter stay, the ski lift is a separate planning consideration, and its actual operation should be checked in advance. The tennis courts, volleyball court, playground and pavilion are different, as they are facilities on the guesthouse grounds.
History and Rural Culture
The first written mention of Maly Lipnik dates from 1600. A Šoltýs founded the village together with settlers from Galicia as a Kopaničarska village; it belonged to the Plaveč estate of the Palocsayovsko-Horváthovský family. Sheep farming, the production of woollen cloth and the extraction of linseed oil were part of historical rural production. Together, these activities illustrate different aspects of work at the time: animal husbandry, wool processing and the extraction of a plant-based oil.
Conflicts are also part of the village's history. In 1848, an uprising by residents against the county and feudal obligations was put down by the military; in 1887, the Želiare rose up against a forced execution. The two events point to different disputes in the village. The painter Eduard Hriňák, who was born in Maly Lipnik, provides another biographical connection to culture.
