Kráľová Nad Váhom: Váh, Cultural Heritage and Cycling Trails

Kráľová nad Váhom represents a river landscape, nature conservation and local cultural history. The municipality lies in the Podunajská nížina on the right river terrace of the Váh, north of the district capital. The river crosses Kráľová nad Váhom from north to southeast; part of the Kráľová Reservoir is also located within the cadastral area. Váh, Reservoir and Bird Protection Area

The CHVÚ Kráľová bird protection area covers the cadastral area of Kráľová nad Váhom and is part of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas. For birds, CHVÚ Kráľová is an important resting, wintering and roosting site. Alongside the river and the reservoir, a clearly defined natural area is therefore also at the heart of the municipality. The Váh offers good conditions for windsurfing, yachting and water skiing; these activities complement the predominantly scenic perspective with opportunities on the water.

Cultural History between the Church, Calvary and Bell Tower

Among the prominent cultural monuments is Kostol sv. Alžbety, a Baroque church built in 1732. It was extended in 1927 and has a Baroque high altar dating from the mid-18th century. The Kalvária of Kráľová nad Váhom was probably established between 1928 and 1932. Its 14 stations stand in a lime-tree avenue; inside the hill is the chapel Kaplnka Božieho hrobu.

Another historic structure is the Rázsochová zvonica. It was built in 1897 and renovated from February to August 2010. A bronze bell is mounted at the top of a tall wooden post. The local annual calendar also includes the Obecné dni, documented local cultural events held repeatedly, including in 2023 and on 22 and 23 August 2025. A distinctive local Advent tradition is Adventné okná: residents decorate windows that are clearly visible from public roads.

Cycling and Activities on the Water

Two differently classified routes are central to exploring the area by bicycle. The Vážska cyklomagistrála between Komárno and Šúrovce runs through Kráľová nad Váhom along a 4.3 km section. In addition, the municipality has a 4.8 km cycling route around the Kráľová hydroelectric power station. The two figures do not describe the same route: one is part of a connection designated as supraregional, while the other runs around the power station.

The Kráľová nad Váhom hydroelectric power station was built between 1980 and 1985. During its construction, a monumental work of art by the artist František Chrástek was created at the power station. The Športový areál includes a 70 × 100 metre football pitch and a training ground. In addition, there is an 18 × 33 metre multi-purpose artificial-turf field for five-a-side football, tennis and volleyball.

Practical Orientation in the Municipality

The municipal library, Obecná knižnica, is located in a building on the village square. Its lending hours are from 14:30 to 16:30 on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Other places in the navigation area are Šaľa, Vlčany, Žihárec, Neded, Močenok, Hájske, Dlhá Nad Váhom and Tešedíkovo.
