Discover Diakovce: Thermal Bath, Cycling Route and Romanesque Church

Diakovce brings together thermal traditions, cycling and remarkable sacred architecture in a compact thematic setting. You can get to know the town through the AVA Thermalpark thermal bath, the cycling route from Šaľa or the late Romanesque Kostol Nanebovzatia Panny Márie church. There are also two references to calvaries from different periods, providing further historical points of reference in the town’s history.

Thermal Bath and Wellness in Diakovce

At the AVA Thermalpark Diakovce thermal bath, the geothermal water reaches up to 39 °C. This means that the town is centred not only around a bathing facility but also around a clearly defined thermal theme. During the summer season, the thermal bath can be visited daily within its opening hours when weather conditions are suitable. For your planning, the combination of season and weather conditions is therefore decisive; specific times are not anticipated here.

The AVA Thermalpark also includes a wellness area with saunas, an ice chamber, whirlpools and relaxation rooms. These facilities distinguish a visit to the thermal park from simply spending time in the water and also give the town a wellness component.

Cycling Route between Šaľa and Diakovce

A second perspective is provided by the Šaľa–Diakovce cycling route. It was officially opened on 2 June 2026 and is intended for cycling. The route is 1,565 metres long, begins on Diakovská Street in Šaľa and ends at a petrol station in Diakovce.

Photoluminescent, or glow-in-the-dark, stones are integrated into the surface of the route. In darkness, they help cyclists find their way and increase safety. The route therefore has a distinctive design feature that is directly connected with its use as a cycling route.

Church and Calvaries of Diakovce

The late Romanesque Benedictine church of Kostol Nanebovzatia Panny Márie in Diakovce was consecrated in 1228. The building has three naves and features three eastern apses in a row, as well as two western towers. These clearly identifiable architectural features make the church interesting also for visitors who want to explore sacred architecture without in-depth prior knowledge.

The church can be visited during services or by arrangement with the parish administrator. Visiting it is therefore tied to a specific format: you can use a church service as an opportunity or make an appointment in advance. General access at any time is not indicated.

The calvary in Diakovce was built in 1822 next to the Catholic church. It stands on a small artificial hill near the Romanesque, originally Benedictine monastery church of Kostol Nanebovzatia Panny Márie and forms a prominent landmark. A new calvary is also mentioned, built under parish priest Samu Varghu using donated funds and consecrated on 7 November 1909. The different years point to the historical development of this local feature over several decades.
