Discover Nalepkovo: Cycling Route, Valley and Churches

Nalepkovo can be discovered through two special points of access: via a long cycling connection through the Hnilec Valley and via two churches in Nálepkovo, whose architectural forms emphasize different historical aspects. In addition, there is a monument in the central square. Cycling between Dedinky and Margecany

The 69.3-kilometre Hnilecká Cycling Route passes through Nálepkovo on its route between Dedinky and Margecany. The village is therefore located along a connection whose geographical context extends far beyond the immediate valley. If you include this route in your planning, its changing road character is important: the Hnilecká Cycling Route runs along Class II and III roads, local roads and, briefly, a forest road.

A narrow valley along the Hnilec

The Hnilec Valley near Nálepkovo is comparatively narrow; the mountain slopes often reach right up to the riverbanks there. This creates a landscape in which the river and slopes are closely connected. Compared with a wide-open plain, the surroundings appear spatially concentrated. This character adds a clear landscape dimension to the cycling route: the impression of Nálepkovo is shaped not only by the length of the connection, but also by the form of the valley.

Two churches, two historical architectural styles

The Roman Catholic Church of “St. Stephen” in Nálepkovo is a single-nave Classical building with a segmentally closed presbytery and a projecting tower structure dating from 1770 to 1781. Its furnishings include a late Baroque high altar from the period when the church was built. The church also has a pulpit and an organ from the late 18th century. The architecture and furnishings thus point to several closely interconnected historical layers. The Protestant church in Nálepkovo presents a different architectural accent. It is a single-nave late Baroque building with a segmentally closed presbytery, without a tower, dating from 1785. Its furnishings include a masonry Classical altar from the early 19th century and Empire-style pews from the same period. The two churches differ considerably in their architectural form, tower solution and furnishings, without reducing the buildings to their age alone.

The village centre and further travel orientation

A monument dating from 1929 stands in the central square of Nálepkovo. Together with the two churches, it adds another fixed reference point to the village’s landscape and cultural-historical character. You can therefore view Nálepkovo according to your focus: as part of a cycling route, as a narrow valley along the Hnilec, or as a place with clearly recognizable historical architectural styles.
