Water, wellness and routes around Kaluža

Kaluza particularly appeals to travelers who want to spend their days enjoying water activities, wellness, culture and cycling tours. The main attraction is Thermalpark Šírava on the Medvedia hora peninsula in the municipality of Kaluža. Its water world includes a wave pool and a swimming pool. There is also a long slide and a short slide, a lazy river, a swing bay and a children's playground. This brings together different ways to enjoy a day at the water in one specific location.

The thermal park also includes a relaxation-focused wellness center with a sauna world. This means a visit can be about more than swimming, extending to peace and relaxation as well. For families, the children's playground in the thermal park and the two children's pools in the pool complex in Kaluža are particularly interesting; each of these pools is 40 centimeters deep.

Specific pools and lakeside facilities

Another focal point is the center of Kaluža at Zemplínska Šírava. There, the non-swimmer pool is 112 meters long, 12 meters wide and 1.2 meters deep. It has been in operation since 2003. These stated dimensions clearly distinguish this pool from the children's pools and the facilities at the thermal park. So if you are looking for a place with different types of water facilities, you can choose between the long non-swimmer pool, the shallower children's pools and the water world of the thermal park.

The Kaluža resort on the shore of Zemplínska Šírava also has a beach and a campsite. This combination complements the pool and wellness facilities described above with a specifically designated lakeside area. Another cultural feature is the Greek Catholic Church “Gréckokatolícky kostol sv. Tomáša”. It is a single-nave eclectic building with a semicircular apse at the end of the presbytery and a projecting tower dating from 1928.

Culture and cycling as a second way to spend the day

The sights of the municipality of Kaluža also include the monument “Pamätník osloboditeľom obce Kaluža”. Together with the church, it provides a clearly defined cultural counterpoint to the water and wellness facilities. You can therefore orient your visit either more toward the described architectural and memorial sites or toward the facilities on Zemplínska Šírava.

Two cycling routes are documented for active days. The Kaluža–Morské oko cycling route starts in Kaluža, heads east toward Jovsa and continues to Lake Morské oko. The second route, Kaluža–Vyšná Rybnica, leads from Kaluža via Kusín, Jovsa and Poruba pod Vihorlatom to Vyšná Rybnica. The two descriptions show different routes: one leads to Lake Morské oko, while the other connects several named places on the way to Vyšná Rybnica.
