Mokrade Turca: Wetlands and Waterbirds

The Mokrade Turca Ramsar site also includes the cadastral area of Valentová. It bears site number 932, was listed on 17 February 1998 and covers 750 hectares. The area contains representative or unique examples of natural and near-natural wetland types in the Western Carpathians. Mokrade Turca is also part of a migration corridor for waterbirds and is characterised by rare, endangered and critically endangered plant and animal species.

Along the educational trail, this landscape appears as a mosaic of different wetland ecosystems. These include wet meadows, marsh meadows, reed beds, sedge bogs, floodplain forests and scrub. Anyone interested in nature observation will experience not just a single type of landscape here, but the changing sequence of several habitats along one continuous route.

The Turiec a Blatnický potok protected area also includes the cadastral area of Valentová. It contains a largely natural river course with meanders, side channels, shallow sections and deep areas. Floodplain forests, scrub, wet meadows, pastures, reed beds, fens, oxbow channels and seasonal pools shape the protected surroundings. These different elements make the natural area particularly varied, without requiring it to be artificially reduced to a single landscape type.

Educational Trail and Cycling Routes

The 23-kilometre Mokrade Turca educational trail begins near Valentová. It runs through Ivančiná and Diviacke kruhy to the Rakšianske rašelinisko peat bog. The route is suitable for both hikers and cyclists and is described as an uncomplicated cycling route that can be used independently. It can be cycled in summer and winter. This means you can experience the route independently of a guided group; at the same time, it connects Valentová with several named landscape and local sections.

Cyclists have another option in the 38.5-kilometre Južný Turiec route. Valentová is located at kilometre 25.5 of this route. This provides a specific route section for orientation, while the 23-kilometre Mokrade Turca educational trail offers its own access to the wetlands. Both details help you distinguish between a landscape-focused educational trail and a longer cycling tour through southern Turiec.

Ranch Amadeus: Accommodation and Horse Riding

Ranch Amadeus in Valentová offers accommodation with horse-riding experiences in the Turiec region. The facilities include up to five log cabins. Each cabin has its own toilet and bathroom and is standardly equipped for three people with two beds and an extra bed.

The horse-riding activities are aimed at different levels of experience. Experienced riding instructors lead lessons for beginners and advanced riders. Beginners can enjoy guided walking rides in the riding arena. Experienced riders can take part in rides through the surrounding countryside, ranging from one hour to several-day riding tours in the surrounding mountains. Anyone wishing to work with horses over a longer period can also take part in a structured programme providing complete instruction in horse care, saddling and working with horses.

The summer riding camp combines hiking with Western- and English-style riding. Another special feature of Ranch Amadeus is the preparation of pressed meat, sausages, liver sausages and other dishes on request. Under the supervision of a butcher, these products are made from a pig weighing approximately 200 kilograms.

Historical Traces in Valentová

The history of the village dates back at least to the Middle Ages: a boundary survey from 1362 identified Murenfeld as present-day Valentová. Valentová was also one of the kuriat villages. Visible historical references include the Valentová kúria, a Neoclassical manor house built at the beginning of the 19th century. Its main façade featured a projecting columned portico with three arches, topped by a tympanum. The kúria thus complements the nature and activity-based offerings with an architectural testament to the village's history.
