Malacky: Culture, History and Zámocký Park

Historic Sites and an Expansive Park

Malacky combines historic buildings, a diverse museum and the 30-hectare Zámocký Park. For your travel planning, it is particularly important to note that Malacky Manor House is closed in 2026 due to partial renovation. The anticipated reopening is scheduled for spring 2027. The building was originally a Renaissance structure and was built in 1624.

The Michal Tillner Museum focuses on a collection of more than 1,200 predominantly ethnographic objects. In addition, there is a partially modernized exhibition on kerosene lamps and wall clocks. The museum therefore offers an insight into different areas of local everyday life and material culture, without being limited to the history of a single collection.

Churches, Synagogue and Places of Remembrance

One of the oldest surviving buildings in Malacky is Kostol Najsvätejšej Trojice. The church was built between 1574 and 1580 in the Renaissance style. A church in Malacky also contains an exact replica of the Holy Stairs. Both details make the city particularly interesting if you would like to include historic religious buildings and religious monuments in your sightseeing itinerary.

The synagogue in Malacky was built in the Moorish style. Preserved features include richly ornamented stucco, a bimah or Torah ark, and a niche for storing Torah scrolls. A guided tour is required for a visit; booking is supposed to be arranged through the local art school and announced at least one day in advance.

Beneath the Franciscan church are crypts in which around forty prominent members of the Pálffy family, Franciscans, and wealthier residents of the town and its surroundings are buried. During the week, you can visit the crypts after registering by telephone or email at least one day in advance and receiving confirmation. Alternatively, the visit can be registered at the tourist information office during its opening hours. This arrangement clearly distinguishes the visit from freely accessible sightseeing.

Park, Cycling Route and Events

Zámocký Park offers opportunities for walks, a new outdoor fitness center, running paths and a football pitch. The park can be reached by bus and train. For a cycling tour, the Duklianskych hrdinov–Na majeri route begins at the entrance to Zámocký Park opposite Fytopharma. It runs along Duklianskych hrdinov Street past the hospital, continues via Rakárenská Street and then crosses to the other side of the motorway towards the Na majeri area.

If you would like to combine culture with a seasonal event, Malacky regularly hosts the musical event Malacká hudobná jar in March. Thus, in addition to historic sites and the park, musical experiences are also part of the annual programme.
