Borinka lies at an altitude of 203 metres in the valley of the Stupava stream on the southwestern edge of the Little Carpathians. The village combines a varied landscape with traces of medieval fortifications, religious sites and trails leading into a karst area. If you would like to combine a trip with culture, activity and peaceful destinations for excursions, Borinka offers several different starting points for doing so.

Castle Ruins and Historical Traces

One of the most prominent destinations is Pajštún Castle. Its ruins stand on a 486-metre-high limestone cliff and date from the 13th century. From Borinka, you can reach the castle on foot via a red-marked trail with a steep ascent in about 45 minutes. This information helps with planning your day: the visit involves a significant climb and can be planned as a standalone hike around the village.

The remains of the walls of Dračí hrádok are also located near the municipality. The ruins of a watchtower were built in the 13th century and probably served as a guard post protecting the route through the Little Carpathians. Those interested in medieval landscape history will find a different perspective here than at the widely visible Pajštún castle complex: the focus is on the surviving wall remains and the former function as an observation and defensive facility.

Karst Landscape and Excursion Trails

The Borinský Karst area lies above Borinka. Medené Hámre also belongs to the municipality: the former settlement lies in the cadastral area of the municipality of Borinka in Malacky District. The area is located almost centrally in the Devín Carpathians and is now known as a tourist destination and excursion site for walks. From Borinka, Medené Hámre can be reached via an asphalt road or hiking trails.

The history of Medené Hámre is also part of the visitor experience. Copperware was historically produced in the former settlement. During an excursion, this historical connection can be combined with the landscape around the small reservoir. On its shore, a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from 1731 stands on a prismatic pedestal.

Active Experiences and Religious Sites

There is a climbing area at Pajštún with around 70 routes. The routes are 25 to 30 metres long; alongside easier ones, there are also more challenging variants. This allows you to shape your stay in different ways: the ascent to the castle leads to a historical destination, while the climbing area provides a separate focus for sport-oriented days. However, the information about the routes does not indicate a uniform level of difficulty for the entire area.

The Pajštún Calvary includes a statue of Saint Michael and an altar in its lower section, while the upper section contains Stations of the Cross. The Calvary was completed and consecrated in 1940. Together with the castle and watchtower, it offers another perspective on the history of the area, this time with a religious focus.

Accommodation and Travel Planning in Borinka

When looking for a hotel in Borinka, it is worth using your planned excursions as a guide. For Pajštún, you should take the steep ascent and approximate walking time into account. For Medené Hámre, on the other hand, both an asphalt road and hiking trails are available. Those who wish to combine several interests can consider the castle, the karst area, the historical traces of Medené Hámre and the religious sites on separate days, without combining the destinations into an unsupported single route.

The annual Stavanie máje event is also part of the local calendar. It complements the permanent landscape and cultural attractions described here with a recurring occasion in community life. For your specific travel planning, you should check the timing of this event separately.

You can find other places in the surrounding area under Marianka, Malacky, Lozorno and Stupava.
