Irish budget airline Ryanair introduced in late June regular flights from Bratislava. One of Europe's leading low-cost carriers launched several new routes from the main airport of Bratislava MR Stefanik.
Summer directions - this is the thing on which Ryanair has recently focused. Now via the airline's flights from Bratislava can be reached Costa del Sol in Spain and Costa Smeralda in Sardinia in Italy. The first flight to Malaga airport - air gate of the resort region of Costa Dal Sol - Ryanair sent from Bratislava on Wednesday 23 June 2010. To the airport of Sardinia Algero Ryanair made its first flight on June 25, 2010. During the tourist season the company plans to make two flights per week in each direction.
Today Ryanair flights connect Bratislava with many cities in Europe. In fact, Ryanair is the airline on which depends the fate of Bratislava airport. After the bankruptcy of another budget airline - SkyEurope - Ryanair in Slovakia is actually in the position of a monopolist. To date, it flights provide for the main load of the airport. Bratislava Airport, which planned to become a major hub in Central Europe, is not yet able to compete with Vienna Airport. Most major airlines prefer to make its flights there.
Bratislava in turn cooperates with Ryanair. So, opened on June 28, 2010 new terminal of Bratislava will be mainly served by Ryanair. It should be noted that in October 2009 Ryanair announced that the airport of Bratislava is the main airport for Ryanair flights in the region of Central Europe.
