Transdanubia region

Transdanubia travel region is one of the most southern regions of Slovakia. As it is evident from its name, it brings together the parts of several towns, standing on the banks of the major river in Slovakia and Central Europe, the Danube. Transdanubia region is part of the route of famous European cruises from the North Sea to the Black Sea.

In addition to the Danube, on the territory of Transdanubia region flow almost all major rivers of Slovakia: Vah, Nitra and Khron.

The Transdanubian region is located near the border of Slovakia and Hungary. The Danube is a symbolic line in which the boundary passes today. Transdanubian region is a place of compact residence of the Hungarian ethnic group in Slovakia. Between the First and Second World Wars, the local land has passed from Slovakia to Hungary and back for many times.

Several excellent tourist destinations are situated today in the Transdanubian region. One of them is a town Komarno near the Slovak border, close to the confluence of the Danube and Vag. Komarno is interesting for its history and architecture. After the First World War as a result of the revision of the borders of Central Europe, a part of the city remained on the Hungarian territory and a part remained in Slovakia. Today both Slovak Komarno and Hungarian Komarno are сonnected by a bridge. In Komarno today there are lots of attractions, from the ruins of the castle to the toy Europe Square, built in 2001, the building of which is at the same time represent the architecture of the whole of Europe.

The Town of Sturovo is the second attractive tourist center of the Transdanubian region. It, as well as Komarno, stands on the bank of the Danube. And just as in the case of Komárno, opposite to Sturovo, on the other side of the Danube lies a Hungarian town of Estergom for this time, the former residence of the head of the Hungarian Church. Sturovo is known for its spa complex Vadash, which is intended for simultaneous reception of 8 000 visitors.

The spa in Transdanubian region is one of the main types of tourism. In addition to Sturovo, multi-spa complexes are situated in the vicinity of Dunajska Streda, Velki Meder and Patince.
