Trakovice

Trakovice combines a multifaceted local history with cultural monuments, the Dudváh stream, and opportunities for cycling and hiking. If you are looking for accommodation in a Slovak village with visible historical traces and a regular cultural programme, you will find several different points of interest here to incorporate into your travel planning.

Cultural Monuments and Archaeological Traces

The most significant monument in Trakovice is the Church of Saint Stephen the King. The originally Classicist building dates from 1811, has a single nave, an incorporated tower and a semicircular presbytery. Inside, the painting of Saint Alexius dates from 1792; it was created by the painter Jozef Brandt from Hlohovec. Another religious landmark is the small Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, which was restored more recently.

Smaller monuments also tell the story of the village. The oldest stone sculpture in Trakovice is a statue of the Virgin Mary erected in 1884 by Pavol Bučko and restored in 1999 by his grandson Štefan Bučko. A statue of Saint Wendelin, erected in 1885, stands by the Dudváh stream. On the local cemetery, sandstone crosses from the 19th and 20th centuries are considered monuments; they come from stonemason workshops in Dobrá Voda.

The history of the municipality's territory goes back a long way. It was settled in the Neolithic period, the Early Bronze Age, the Late Iron Age, Roman times and the Slavic period. Archaeological finds include a Neolithic settlement of the Lengyel culture. The settlement area of this culture extends beyond the cadastral boundaries of the municipalities of Žlkovce and Trakovice. Archaeological themes thus complement the visible buildings and small monuments with a significantly older historical layer.

The Dudváh, Orchards and Paths

The Dudváh stream flows through the eastern part of Trakovice's built-up municipal area from north to south. The village and surrounding landscape also retain remnants of cherry orchards on Maksavy (Linaje), pear orchards along the road to Malženice, lime trees in the cemetery, and individual mulberry and apricot trees in private gardens. In Panšula, Jozef Šesták planted, grafted and managed wild fruit trees; schoolchildren received practical instruction there in fruit growing and horticulture.

For active days, the municipality describes very good opportunities for cycling tours along the Dudváh, with a connection to Trnava via the Považská Route. The opportunities for walks and hiking are also rated as very good by the municipality. In Trakovice, cycling tours along the Dudváh, walks and hiking complement the cultural monuments with outdoor activity: you can focus your stay on local history or combine the historical themes with active days.

Cultural Life and Events

The amateur theatre Divadlo na TrakOch has operated continuously since 2001 and prepares smaller or larger performances every year. Since 2002, together with the Trakovice Municipal Office, it has organised annual St. Nicholas performances for children. The regular cultural programme also includes a hunters' ball, a gardeners' ball, a country ball, the raising of the maypole, a cultural programme for children for International Children's Day, fruit and vegetable exhibitions, meetings with senior citizens, the closing of summer, Mother's Day and an open-air cinema. Which of these events suits your stay depends on the particular travel period; the formats listed nevertheless demonstrate the range of local cultural life.

Getting There and Finding Your Way Around

Trakovice is served by regular SAD bus connections and has six bus stops. State Road II/513 runs through the centre on the Trakovice–Hlohovec–Nitra route. In the western part of the cadastral area, it connects to State Road I/61 on the Trnava–Piešťany route. In the eastern part, II/513 leads to the D1 motorway, an international road corridor of the E75. When choosing accommodation, you can therefore consider the cultural attractions, paths along the Dudváh and the available transport connections together.
