Topoľníky brings together waterscapes, cycling routes, a thermal bath and places of remembrance. When planning your trip, you can consider whether nature and water, physical activity, bathing or history should be your main focus. These themes can also help guide you when looking for accommodation for your stay.

Waterscapes and nature

The Tőkés branch of the Little Danube runs through the cadastral area of Topoľníky. The area is designated as a protected area covering 306 hectares. A viewpoint with a panoramic view is described at the confluence of the Tőkés branch and the Little Danube. Another watercourse is Klátovské rameno: it is a national nature reserve, and its watercourse passes through Dolné and Horné Topoľníky.

Species found in Klátovské rameno Nature Reserve include the European fire-bellied toad, the Eurasian otter, the mute swan, the grey heron, the Eurasian coot and the white stork. These names give an impression of the diversity of wildlife associated with the area. If you are interested in nature watching, these species can draw your attention to the reserve’s wildlife.

The protected area along the Tőkés branch offers opportunities for fishing, swimming and sunbathing. Boat trips on the Little Danube are also possible. Check the local conditions and permits in advance for a specific boat trip. This allows you to consider nature-based activities separately from the planning they require.

Cycling in and around Topoľníky

A 940-metre-long cycle path runs from the start of Horné Topoľníky to the end of Mostová Street. Another cycling connection links Dunajská Streda, Ohrady, Trhová Hradská and Topoľníky. The two descriptions are at different scales: the local path has a specific length and stated endpoints, while the other connection includes several municipalities. If cycling is important to your trip, you can take these differences into account when choosing accommodation and planning your days.

Thermal bath and relaxation

The Topoľníky thermal bath began operating in 1983 and offers opportunities for swimming, relaxation and leisure. The complex includes a children’s playground, a training centre, a sauna and hydrotherapy. Since facilities and their availability may change, check current operating information and the availability of these amenities before visiting. The historical opening year provides a point of reference, but does not replace planning for a specific visit.

Monuments and local history

The Sword Rights Monument, dated 1796, stands in the park next to the cultural centre. It symbolises the power of the Pálffy counts, who could even punish convicted offenders with death. A monument to Sándor Petőfi was erected in 1995. A monument at the end of Orlová Street and an obelisk in the Topoľníky cemetery also commemorate the battles.

The former importance of sturgeon fishing is also part of the town’s history. Salted fish was once transported from Topoľníky to Warsaw, Kyiv, Moscow, Vienna, Prague and Paris. This trading history offers a different perspective on the town from its waterways and present-day leisure activities: in the past, fishing connected Topoľníky with faraway cities.

Planning your journey and accommodation

Bus route 201423 connects Veľký Meder, Topoľníky, Dunajská Streda, Lehnice and Bratislava. One timetable version for the route is valid from 1 March 2026; check the days of operation before travelling. When choosing accommodation, you can first decide what your main focus will be: cycling routes and nature, the thermal bath or historic places of remembrance offer different reasons for a stay. These themes can help you find your bearings without assuming that any particular accommodation has specific facilities or a specific location.
