Regetovka combines protected moorland, winter sports, riding experiences and a distinctive religious building. Those planning a trip to this part of Slovakia can choose between exploring nature, activities in the snow, cycling and culture. The varied options make it easier to decide on your preferred focus before looking for suitable accommodation.

Moorland and educational trail

The Regetovské rašelinisko nature reserve was designated in 1979 to protect preserved and unusual peat bog communities in eastern Slovakia. The area, also known locally as “Stav”, lies in a depression in the terrain. Agricultural land and hillside meadows surround this landscape and shape its character.

Regetovské rašelinisko is also notable botanically: the bog arum (Calla palustris) occurs there as the only known site of its kind in eastern Slovakia. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from the centre of Regetovka to the moorland; the route is approximately 0.6 km long. For a more detailed exploration of the habitat, the 3.5 km Regetovské rašelinisko educational trail is a good option. Its 13 stations cover, among other topics, wetland flora and fauna, the water cycle, moorland biodiversity, and meadow and forest ecosystems.

This gives you two differently structured options for planning: the short route from the village centre leads to the area, while the educational trail allows more time for thematic stations. You should take the stated route lengths into account when planning your day.

Skiing, cross-country skiing and riding

At the Regetovka ski resort, two ski lifts operate at Dolný svah, with a combined capacity of 2,000 people per hour. The ski resort also has 5 km of cross-country ski trails. Those who want to focus their trip on alpine winter sports or cross-country skiing will therefore find two clearly distinct types of activity.

Ranč Regetovka offers another option. Its services include guided riding, riding training and trail rides in nature at varying levels of difficulty for children and adults. The guided trail rides at Ranč Regetovka are intended for experienced riders and lead across meadows and forest paths in the surrounding area. When planning, therefore, check which specific riding option suits your experience and the composition of your travel group.

Cyclists can also choose their own focus. The Makovická cycling route is 52.5 km long. This distance should be included in your day plan if you are considering incorporating the route into your trip.

Church and regional architectural history

Regetovka’s cultural attractions include the church “Chrám sv. Demetra veľkomučeníka”. It was built in 1893 in a mixed historicist style, with predominant elements of Ukrainian Baroque and eastern Slovak Classicism. The interior furnishings date from the time the church was built. For visitors interested in culture, the building therefore offers both historical context and specific details about its design.

Choose accommodation based on your travel interests

If you are looking for a hotel in Regetovka, you can base your choice on the experience you want from your trip. For a nature-focused trip, Regetovské rašelinisko and its educational trail are the main attractions. For a winter trip, the two ski lifts at Dolný svah and the 5 km of cross-country ski trails are the key points. Riding, cycling and the church offer further thematic options.
