Accommodation in Fričkovce
Fričkovce between Čergov, Winter Sports and Village History
Fričkovce lies in the Bartošovská Basin at the eastern foothills of the Čergov Mountains. The village combines a long settlement history with winter sports, hiking trails and religious memorial sites. This gives Fričkovce different points of interest for a trip through Slovakia: you can explore the history of the village, use a ski resort or set out on trails into the Čergov Mountains.
Historical Traces in the Village
The earliest written mention of Fričkovce dates back to 1427. The village was established as early as the first half of the 14th century on the estate of the noble Perényi family. A visible testimony to the village’s more recent history is the Roman Catholic Church of St. Martin. It was built in 1822 and replaced an earlier wooden church. Its location on Hlavná Street in the upper part of Fričkovce makes it a clearly identifiable landmark in the village.
The cellar of Fričkovce is also part of the historical heritage. The stone, vaulted structure is located in the northern part of the village, dates from the 17th to the 18th century and has interior dimensions of 22 × 4 metres. The historic cellar is listed among the national cultural monuments. The villagescape is complemented by the new church, built in a modern style with a distinctive tower and consecrated on 28 June 1997 by Archbishop Alojz Tkáč.
Ski Resort and Trails near Čergov
The Fričkovce ski resort is located northwest of the village at an elevation of 580 to 610 metres above sea level. It is particularly aimed at beginners and families with children and offers evening skiing in addition to daytime operations. There is a free parking area at the ski resort, up to 50 metres away. Those who want to focus their travel on winter activities will find Fričkovce to be a place where skiing and a stay in a rural setting come together.
Various opportunities are also available outside alpine skiing. From Fričkovce, Čergov can be reached via several cross-country skiing routes. The hiking trails on Čergov are also suitable for cycling tourism. One specific hiking option follows a yellow-marked trail to Chata Čergov. The route is 4.5 kilometres long and takes about one and a half hours on foot. For your planning, this approximate walking time is just as relevant as the route length.
Pilgrimage Sites and Mountain Views
A 4.5-kilometre educational hiking trail leads from the centre of Fričkovce to the St. Florian memorial site in the Čergov Mountains. In the cadastral area of Fričkovce in the Čergov Mountains, a memorial site was also erected in 2001 that is considered the highest-elevation memorial site in Slovakia dedicated to St. Florian. These destinations combine activity in the mountains with religious and local history.
The summit of Mlynská hora is a pilgrimage site where believers pray the Stations of the Cross. From the place where the cross was erected on Mlynská hora, there is a beautiful view of the surrounding villages. Depending on the focus of your trip, you can therefore regard Fričkovce as a starting point for winter sports, hiking, cycling or a cultural and historical tour of the village. When looking for a hotel or other accommodation in Fričkovce, it is worth taking these different experiences into account when choosing where to stay.
