Accommodation in Pozba
Pozba combines a diverse cultural landscape with an important pilgrimage site, archaeological traces, and a distinctive rural topography. Those choosing this place as a destination in Slovakia will find a variety of points of interest: religious architecture at Studnička Pozba, historic monuments in the village, a protected ancient tree, a preserved railway station building, and a designated MTB cycling loop.
Landscape between lowland hills and an ancient tree
The relief of Pozba, meaning the shape of the landscape, is predominantly characterized by moderately to moderately strongly dissected lowland hills. Their elevations range between 156 and 253 meters. As a result, the surrounding area has a clearly recognizable hilly landscape that differs both from Slovakia’s high Alpine regions and from completely flat plains. A special natural monument is the protected Tankošký cer tree. It is a 400-year-old Turkey oak (Quercus cerris). The tree is protected not only because of its age, but also because of its scientific and cultural significance. In terms of how the area is perceived, it is therefore more than just a single landscape feature: Tankošký cer represents the connection between natural history and regional cultural heritage.Studnička Pozba: pilgrimage, chapels, and Stations of the Cross
The Studnička Pozba pilgrimage site is dedicated to the Seven Sorrows of Mary and lies in the triangle between the municipalities of Pozba, Bardoňovo, and Dedinka. From May to the end of October, Mass is celebrated there regularly every Sunday at 11:00 a.m. This clearly defined schedule is one of the most important specific points of reference for a visit. A chapel was built above the spring in 1926 using donations from pilgrims. Opposite it stands a second chapel, built in 1914. The complex also includes a Lourdes grotto with a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes. Above the spring, the Calvary continues with 15 images of the Stations of the Cross; the depictions are attached to the trees. Studnička Pozba thus comprises several religious sites and forms of remembrance that come together in a spatially coherent complex.Church, cemetery, and places of remembrance in Pozba
The village is home to the Reformed Church, which is considered the oldest monument in the municipality. It was built in 1785 in the Toleration Classicist style. Pozba thus preserves a specific testimony to the religious and architectural history of the 18th century. A monument erected in 1994 in the square commemorates the victims of the First and Second World Wars. Nine names of victims of the First World War and 22 names of fallen soldiers of the Second World War are engraved in the stone. A Jewish cemetery with marble gravestones adds to Pozba’s historic places of remembrance.Archaeological traces and travel connections
Archaeological finds from the area provide evidence of a Neolithic settlement of the Lengyel culture. Finds also point to an Eneolithic settlement with fluted pottery. These traces place Pozba not only in the context of more recent local history, but also in significantly older settlement phases. The single-storey, rectangular railway station building is also important for orientation in the area. It has been preserved to this day almost in its original condition, thereby retaining a vivid piece of the local history of transportation.A cycling route for an active choice of destination
Cyclists can take note of the blue-marked cycling loop 2102, “Veľký okruh mikroregiónu Termál.” The moderately difficult SPORT MTB route is 55.7 km long. Its unambiguous name, marking color, and length make it a clearly described option for exploring Pozba and the microregion by bicycle. For the overarching travel overview: Nové Zámky.
