Pribylina

Pribylina lies at the foot of the West Tatras and connects this landscape with remarkable evidence of Liptov’s history. The area offers ideal conditions for hiking. At the same time, you can visit an open-air museum with historical exhibitions, discover traditional crafts and explore individual cultural monuments with a history dating back to the Middle Ages.

West Tatras and hiking

The location at the foot of the West Tatras shapes the way Pribylina is experienced. If you primarily want to combine your stay with hiking, you will find ideal conditions here. The landscape is not merely a backdrop, but the village’s most important natural point of reference. Historic sites and sacred art

The Parížovce manor house is the oldest surviving aristocratic residence in Liptov. It dates from the 14th to the 16th century and thus represents the region’s long history spanning several eras. The Early Gothic Church of the Virgin Mary from Liptovská Mara offers a different perspective on the past. Fragments of original wall paintings from the 14th and 15th centuries have been preserved inside. Together, these two monuments reveal different aspects of cultural history: an aristocratic residence with medieval and later architectural elements on the one hand, and sacred art with surviving pictorial fragments on the other.

Múzeum liptovskej dediny in Pribylina

The Múzeum liptovskej dediny is located beyond the municipality of Pribylina in the direction of Podbanské. Bus services to the museum run from Liptovský Hrádok, Liptovský Mikuláš and the Tatras. This means that a museum visit can also be included in travel plans from these starting points without assuming a specific journey time.

The museum has a static exhibition of the historic Považská lesná železnica. Hucul horses are also kept there, and visitors can ride them. On almost every Saturday and Sunday in July and August, you can get to know traditional crafts at the Múzeum liptovskej dediny and learn their basics directly from experienced masters. This seasonal focus makes a museum visit particularly interesting if you want not only to view exhibits but also to experience traditional skills first-hand.

Special dates and further orientation

Regular operation of the historic train from June to September 2026 has been documented. Since this period and the craft days are tied to specific months or weekends, it is worth considering the cultural highlights separately when choosing your travel dates. This allows you to weigh up a stay focused on hiking, a museum visit or a combination of both themes.
