Krahule combines winter sports, scenic views and a multifaceted local history in a compact area. At the heart of it is the STRED EURÓPY Visitor Centre, which is available to visitors year-round directly next to the bottom station of the ski lifts. Depending on the season and your personal interests, you can choose between skiing, cross-country skiing, hiking, cycling and cultural discoveries here.

Winter Sports and Routes to Skalka

The Ski Krahule resort has a four-seater chairlift and four ski lifts. There is also a 5 km cross-country ski trail nearby, which is groomed for both classic skiing and skating as needed. Another cross-country route from Krahule to Skalka is extensively groomed. In addition to cross-country skiers, it is also used by sledders and pedestrians for winter and summer tourism.

Skalka can be reached from Krahule on cross-country skis, starting at the ski lifts and continuing via Predné pláne and Zadné diely. This connection is therefore an independent way to explore the winter sports resort and its surroundings on skis, without equating the route with a downhill run in the ski resort.

There is also a clearly described route outside the winter season: “Krahule – Salka Via ferraty” is a 4.5 km route taking approximately two hours and rated as low difficulty. It is suitable for hiking, cycling and ski mountaineering. The route begins at the Krahule ski slope and follows a well-maintained forest road with a moderate incline to Skalka.

Views and Orientation

Those looking for a shorter activity accessible to everyone can walk to the Krahulský štít lookout tower. The route is suitable for all age groups and is signposted along its entire length. From the lookout tower, you can see the city of Kremnica and, in the background, the entire Žiarska Basin. If you continue along the path without taking a turn to the viewpoint, you will reach Krahule.

History and Culture in Krahule

Krahule – Blaufuss is an originally German settlement of lumberjacks, charcoal burners and miners dating back to the 14th century. This origin is one of the village’s historical distinctive features. Its cultural history is also visible in the Church of St. John of Nepomuk, a Baroque-Classical church built in 1806.

Krahule was also a centre of lace-making. In 1895, a state bobbin-lace workshop was established there to provide instruction and sell bobbin lace. Those who want to get to know the village not only through its routes and winter sports activities but also through its regional history will find a distinct cultural focus here.

For cyclists, the Kremnica – Krahule – Skalka – Kremnica cycling route is particularly interesting: it connects Kremnica, Krahule and Skalka and runs through the Kremnica Mountains. Krahule thus offers a range of travel experiences side by side – from a signposted walk to a viewpoint, through cross-country skiing and cycling, to the village’s historical traces.
