Long Night of Churches in Slovakia

The "Long Night of Churches" will be held in Slovakia for the first time on May 27, 2011. The Slovak Catholic Church is following Vienna’s example, where the Long Night of Churches has already become an established tradition. In 2011, the Long Night of Churches will definitely be held in Trnava, Slovakia; other cities in the country are also being considered.

Archbishop of Trnava travels to Vienna to reaffirm participation in the Long Night of Churches

Last Wednesday, during a visit to Vienna, Robert Bezak, Archbishop of Trnava in Slovakia, confirmed that his archdiocese would participate in the Long Night of Churches. Bezak traveled to Austria’s capital with colleagues from the archdiocese and representatives of the city of Trnava to seek ideas and advice from Vienna’s experienced Long Night of Churches organizers. “I am very keen for the ‘Long Night of Churches’ to become a recurring event here in Slovakia, too,” the archbishop said at the meeting in Vienna. In recent years, Bezak and his colleagues had attended the Long Night of Churches in Vienna and in Brno, Czechia, and were enthusiastic about the opportunity to present the Church from a different perspective. It is very close to his heart that cooperation among the dioceses in Slovakia can be made stronger and more sustainable across regions through a joint project such as the Long Night of Churches.
