Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic on October 5, 2010 began his official visit to Ukraine. As expected, the visit will last for 4 days.
On October 6 at 10 a.m. according to the local time, began an official meeting between the President of Slovakia and Ukraine's president Viktor Yanukovich. During a press conference that was held after the meeting, Ivan Gasparovic announced a proposal to Viktor Yanukovych to visit Slovakia.
During his visit Ivan Gasparovic is also expected to meet with Foreign Minister of Ukraine Konstantin Khristenko and the Speaker of Ukrainian Parliament Vladimir Litvin.
As expected, Ivan Gasparovic, together with Viktor Yanukovych, will attend the opening of the Slovak Economic Forum that is to be held in the Ukrainian capital. The forum will be attended by representatives of business circles of Slovakia and Ukraine. In order to participate in the forum along with Ivan Gasparovic a delegation of Slovak businessmen arrived in Kiev.
Slovak President will also visit the memorial to victims of famine in Ukraine in 1932-1933, as well as take part in the laying of wreaths at the grave of the Ukrainian soldiers killed in World War II.
During his visit the Slovak president is not going to be limited by only the capital of Ukraine. So, on October 7-8, Ivan Gasparovic is planning to visit Crimea.
Visit of President of Slovakia has already produced tangible results. So, between the governments of Slovakia and Ukraine was reached an agreement on the abolition of consular fees at the border crossing by citizens of both countries.
Ukraine and Slovakia are two states that share borders and as a result have many common interests. To date, the economy of Slovakia is one of the most developed in Central and Eastern Europe. In turn, Ukraine is one of the leading geopolitical players in the region.
