Fishing in Slovakia

Slovakia is famous for its rivers. There are hundreds of rivers in Slovakia. Let’s start with the gigantic Danube river and continue with the smallest rivers in the Carpathians and the Tatry. Most of them are very pure and the nearest landscapes are beautiful. Having all these rivers Slovakia is very attractive for fishermen.

Fishing in Slovakia is a real pleasure. Excellent infrastructure gives a fisherman an opportunity to go fishing leaving behind any other problems. There are about 900 places of fish industry where they organize professional fishing. More than 200 of them organize trout fishing.

The mountains take a great part of the landscape in Slovakia. They give not only wonderful opportunity to spend winter holidays and to go skiing, but these regions are also famous for their wonderful rivers in the Tatry, the Fatra and the other ranges of mountains where fishermen can fish salmon.

The rivers in the flat part of Slovakia are also full of fish. Such kinds of fish as pikes, sheat-fish, eels, roaches, crucians can be found in these rivers.

We can’t but mention the Danube. In the Danube you can find such fish as salmon Gukho-Gukho which is the biggest in Slovakia. You should have special license to fish Gukho-Gukho because it is a rather rare and uncommon kind of fish. The price for the license can be different according to the terms of fishing and the place of fishing. You can get the license either through the tourist agency or through the administration of the place where you are going to fish if they have got such a department there.

You should remember that in spring and autumn fishing in Slovakia is strictly regulated. It doesn’t concern only some kinds of fish, which can be fished all the year round. What concerns popular trout and eel fishing is limited in many places all the year round or fishing is not allowed from September till November (for eel) and from September till the middle of April (for trout).
