A small town of Sliac in Slovakia is famous mostly as a resort. It has been situated on the banks of the river Hron for more than 700 years, but it became a spa resort five centuries after the year of its foundation. The tradition of visiting Sliac to improve health appeared in the 19th century and since then not only people from Slovakia, but also from Poland, Hungary and Czech have been going on holidays there. Nowadays Sliac is a nice variant of spa holidays in Slovakia.
Sliac is situated 10km to the north of the other Slovakian resort called Zvolen. Sliac is situated in a picturesque place surrounded by the cliffs of the Slovakian Rudohorie at the height of 300 m over the sea level. Mineral springs of Sliac attract thousands of tourists to this region every year. People suffering from the problems of heart, nervous system and reproduction system come to Sliac to be cured and to spend a recuperation period there. Beautiful forests, valleys, mountains, pure air and mineral water of Sliac have made this resort a wonderful place for recuperation after “the office fever”, which is really a problem of urbanized population of the 21st century. Tourists from Poland, Czech, the Ukraine, Germany come to Sliac to improve health and to become fit.
The most famous hotels and places for holidays of Sliac are “Palace Hotel”, “Slovensko”, “Detva”, “Bratislava” and “The Old Partisan”, the latter is situated in a restored house of the former hotel “Metropol”. All of them are parts of a unique resort complex, called Spa Sliac.
Sliac and its vicinities have got all necessary things for active holidays and for calm pastime. Those who prefer active holidays can play tennis on the courts or volleyball and basketball on the sporting grounds.
Besides sporting facilities the advantage of Sliac is the fact that there is a small airport there. The airport is famous as a small air terminal, most of the flights from which are to Prague. There is a small village Ohova near Sliac, which is famous for its aero club. Balloons are regularly sent into the sky there and, if tourists want, they can order an aero excursion round the vicinities of Sliac.
