Preparation for the 2011 Ice Hockey World Championship in Slovakia
Bad news for the German national team ahead of the 2011 Ice Hockey World Championship in Slovakia: due to injury, head coach Uwe Krupp will have to do without Patrick Ehelechner of the Nürnberg Ice Tigers and Sandro Schönberger of the Straubing Tigers during the first phase of preparations for the 2011 Ice Hockey World Championship, which will take place in Slovakia from April 29 to May 5, 2011.
The German team begins preparations for the 2011 Ice Hockey World Championship in Slovakia next Monday in Landshut. Replacing Ehelechner and Schönberger, the coach has called up goaltender Sebastian Elwing of EHC München, who will be joining the Kölner Haie next season, and Alexander Oblinger of the Nürnberg Ice Tigers. Both players are expected to feature in the two warm-up games against neighboring Austria. The dates of Germany’s warm-up games against Austria are March 31 and April 1, 2011. The two games will serve as an important indicator of the team’s form shortly before the World Championship in Slovakia begins.

Martin Buchwieser (München) will also take part in the German team’s preparations for the 2011 Ice Hockey World Championship in Slovakia. However, as Buchwieser is still suffering from a persistent thigh injury, the head coach will keep him out of both warm-up games against Austria and have him train only.
The Ice Hockey World Championship is eagerly anticipated as the biggest sporting event in the still-young history of the Slovak state. The organizers expect more than 350,000 spectators from around the world at the championship’s two venues, Košice (US Steel Arena) and the capital Bratislava (Ondrej Nepela Ice Stadium), who will stay in hotels and holiday apartments in Slovakia during the 2011 Ice Hockey World Championship.
