Reise Know-How offers a Slovakia guide

Slovakia seems to remain undiscovered by tourists and is relatively unknown, at least in Western Europe. Although the country east of the Czech Republic is increasingly appearing in major newspapers as an insider tip, there is still very little well-researched travel literature about Slovakia and holidays there. One exception is certainly the guidebook published by Reise Know-How Verlag in Bielefeld. At around 500 pages, the book can hardly be described as a simple guidebook anymore. It is more accurately called a thorough and comprehensive travel resource. But a book’s thickness and weight alone are no measure of its quality or content. Readers of Reise Know-How’s Slovakia volume will be pleasantly surprised in many respects.

Unlike many other guidebooks, this one covers Slovakia as a destination in real depth. The book is not limited to well-known tourist destinations. Hidden gems and lesser-traveled routes are also described surprisingly well, and they lead to pleasant surprises in practice, too. From Bratislava to the Tatras, you’ll find all the details you need. Although the book is quite thick for a travel guide, it is still suitable for taking along and consulting on the road. Since most people travel around Slovakia by car, the Know-How guide can even provide absolutely vital tips and tricks. It’s a worthwhile investment, especially if you’re planning to discover this wonderful country for yourself. If you don’t want to stay in just one place, but hope to explore as many sides of Slovakia as possible, you’d be wise to spend around 19 euros on this well-researched guide. It is also thoroughly up to date. The 2007 edition still offers the latest information and presents the Slovak capital, Bratislava, in its youthful, modern light. No fewer than 14 city maps provide an excellent overview of Slovakia’s travel destinations.

Overall, the Reise Know-How guide is a good blend of travel reading and road atlas. Its clearly organized index makes it easy for holidaymakers to quickly find what they’re looking for. The collection of maps, some 24 pages long, also quickly points you in the right direction. That’s what makes a holiday enjoyable, especially in one of Europe’s most beautiful travel destinations: unspoiled Slovakia.
