The Bratislava City Marathon follows a route through the city, taking in the Old Town districts and the Petržalka borough. The course is mainly on asphalt, concrete and cobblestones, with no significant elevation changes. Participants in the Bratislava Marathon must complete the course twice, giving them the chance to admire the Slovak capital’s historic sights along the way: the route passes beautiful squares, monuments and the winding lanes of Bratislava’s historic city center. It is no wonder that, thanks to its beautiful setting, the Bratislava Marathon is one of the most popular races of its kind in Europe.

The race begins in a historic setting

The races of the 5th Bratislava City Marathon 2010 start in the center of Bratislava, at Hviezdoslav Square. In the shadow of the historic Slovak National Theatre and other monuments, participants gather here and wait eagerly for the starting gun. The advantage for marathon runners is that, since they run the course of the 5th Bratislava City Marathon twice, they can admire Bratislava’s many sights a second time—if they still have enough energy for sightseeing on the second lap through the city.
