On November 11, 2010 was held the grand opening of the embassy of Cyprus in Slovakia. Opening of the embassy of Cyprus was timed to the visit of the President of Cyprus in Slovakia. The opening of the embassy was attended by Presidents of Cyprus and Slovakia, as well as ministers and business representatives of both countries. According to the official website of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, President Dimetris Christofias called the opening of the embassy of Cyprus in Slovakia a "historic event".
Opening of the Embassy of Cyprus in the country took place 17 years after the opening of the Slovak Embassy on the island. Slovak diplomatic mission represents the interests of its country on Cyprus since 1993.
To date, Cyprus is the 10th country in terms of investment in Slovakia. During the press conference held at the opening of the Embassy, the first Ambassador of Cyprus Marios Kunturides told reporters that Cyprus still has great potential for improving economic and trade relations between the two countries.
It is expected that the opening of the new embassy will spur investment flows in both directions: from Slovakia to Cyprus and from Cyprus to Slovakia.
To date, in Slovakia, according to the Cyprus ambassador, operate about 20 companies from Cyprus. Each company has the opportunity to increase its presence on the Slovak market. In turn, on Cyprus, about 450 companies have Slovak shareholders.
