The Danube is one of the main water arteries in Europe. It runs through some European countries such as Romania, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria. The important part of the Danube flows through the territory of Slovakia.
The importance of the Danube for Slovakia can be compared with the importance of the Nile for Egypt. It means a lot for the economy of the country and it is important for the development of tourist industry. There are a lot of tributary rivers which flow into the Danube on the territory of Slovakia. The Vag ( the longest river in Slovakia ), the Gron, the Epel, the Morava are famous as the loveliest places for fishing, eco-tourism and active holidays. But it goes without saying that the Danube is the best of all.
The capital of Slovakia Bratislava is situated on the banks of this great European river and the trade mark “the Danube” is used here widely. The best hotel in the city is called “The Danube”. Besides, one of the streets, a restaurant, a club and a cinema are called in this way too. One of the newest sights of Bratislava is the bridge across the Danube river. Many interesting places will be built on the banks of the river in the nearest future. Among them the River Park with the hotel “Kempinsky 5*” and “Eurovea” with a great shopping hall.
Thanks to the Danube Slovakia has the possibility to develop river cruises. The Danube is one of the most popular water routs in Europe. There are four European capitals on the Danube river. Besides Bratislava they are Belgrade, Budapest and Vienna. Among the tourists from Germany the most popular route for a water cruise is from Reggensburgh through Vienna, Bratislava and Budapest.
